Given the hazardous conditions that a firefighter must perform in, the protective gear they wear is very important.

Take an average size man of 6'1" weight 155 lbs and add the weight of his Bunker Gear
Coat weight 15 to 20 lbs, boots and pants weight 20 to 30 lbs,
his helment weight of 5 lbs, air pack and mask weight 30 to 35 lbs.
The average size fire fighter now weighs between 228 and 243 lbs. And must still be able to move swiftly at a fire scene. this does not include carrying a fire hose or climbing a ladder

Bunker Gear


Gear Bag The Gear Bag is made of nylon its used to carry the Bunker Gear the coat, pants, boots, gloves, hood , helmet and other items the firefighter may need.	Bunker Coat The bunker coat is worn to protect the firefighter from the extreme heat experienced in fires. Additionally, it is flame retardant to protect against flames. The coat also helps keep the firefighter dry. Sometimes they wear them simply to keep warm .	Bunker Pants The bunker pants are worn to protect the firefighter from the extreme heat experienced in fires. Additionally, they are flame retardant to protect against flames. The pants also helps keep the firefighter dry .
Boots The boots is made of flame retardant materials and is used to protect the firefighters feet The boots have steel toes and shanks to protect the feet from sharp objects. They also help to keep the feet dry.	Helmet The helmet is warn to protect the head from falling debris or other hazardous conditions. The helmet is also flame resistant to protect the firefighter in fires. The helmet has a visor that can be lowered to help protect the eyes .	Hood The hood is only worn when fighting fires. It covers the head and tucks into the bunker coat. The hood is made of flame retardant materials and is used to protect the firefighter's head, ears and shoulders in fires. The hood surrounds the face mask of the SCBA to ensure that no skin is exposed to heat or flame .
Gloves Gloves are also flame resistant to protect the firefighters hands from burning.	Tank A device called a PASS (Personal Accountability Safety System) is also integrated with the SCBA. When Oxygen is flowing to the mask and a firefighter stands still for more than 30 seconds, an alarm sounds to alert people that a firefighter may be in trouble. If the alarm is false, the firefighter simply shakes the PASS device to stop the alarm	The SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) allows a firefighter to breathe in adverse conditions such as smoke, fire and other hazardous environments where the room air is unsafe to breathe. The firefighter wears the tank on the back and it connects to the mask, which covers the face
